The Significance and the Legend of the Chintamani Stone

There is a special story about a piece of stone from the Star Sirius. (I was reading upon the Agni Yoga discussion forum). A meteorite stone supposedly, given to Nicholas Roerich, in circumstances hard to verify.

While the Chintamani Stone as other supernatural stones and objects, the search often relates to the physical item and the very possession of such item is the alleged key to its magic, in reality the physical item is seldom as important as its corresponding, “doppelganger” on the subtle plans.

The Holy Grail

For example even centuries later it is hard to imagine if the chalice of Christ was a real tangible item or a metaphysical object important only in its esoteric meaning. When we have very little understanding of the historical time and life of Jesus of Nazareth, the existence of such grail can be elusive. The Holy Grail often mesmerized people’s imagination and they became obsessed by it. In reality they became obsessed by the search and ownership of a magical item.

The metaphorical lesson in the search and the “object”

The item is seldom as important as our metal projection of it. The importance of a Grail, or any philosopher’s stone is only as important as we project into it from our mind.

This is why I found the recent Agni yoga group’s fascination by the Chintamani Stone somewhat perplexing and curious....

This is very interesting, Andras. I want to read more about this so I can think of something reasonably intelligent to say about it. To me, the Chintamani stone sounds like the Philospher's Stone. It is held by the bodhisattva's, like Avalokiteshvara. I think it might be the ability to retain conscious awareness upon departing the material realm or something like that.

Thank you for posting this, Andras. It is very interesting. Buddhism interests me very much.

At the wikipedia page it says

"The Cintamani is said to be one of four relics that came in a chest that fell from the sky (many terma fell from the sky in caskets)"
----------

This does make me think of a meteorite. Even the "Black Stone" in the Kaaba in Mecca as an object of focus within Islam is said to have been a meteorite.

Apparently reverence for meteorites has some history in different cultures.

-----------

As far as this "Cintamani stone" being from Sirius, it makes me wonder if that really means that the observed very bright meteor from which this landed meteorite was the end result appeared to radiate from the region of Sirius in our sky. It's connection to Sirius cold have been merely 'apparent' and not actually physycial from Sirius.

I do find it difficult to believe that a piece of space rock could possibly be identified as having come from Sirius.

Of course, perhaps it wasn't a meteorite at all but part of some object from actual beings who stated they were from the star system we call Sirius (not saying I believe that but who knows if there was contact with us humans in distant times).

----------

I think meteors and expecially very bight meteors and intense meteor showers as well as sightings of comets could have some cultural impacts. Very very large meteoroids orbitting as debris from comets could have caused massive declines in societies in distant past due to their impacts and these "forgotten" events could still have a vague recollection as a fear of comets as bad omens.

The stones that ended up on Earth from the "Heavens" after a firey descent would attract much attention as special objects. What a culture attaches to them as their symbolic significance could vary greatly.

---------

Sirius is interesting in that the Dogan tribe in Africa has apparently detailed information that would seem impossible to know withut advanced telscopes and photographic techniques (knowing it's companian stars and their orbittal details). The conecpt of visiters rom Sirius system in the distant past coming to Earth and leaving important objects is interesting but unproven at present.

Considering that we are talking about the dawn of men, proving anything is impossible. (we cannot "scientifically" prove that Jesus existed circa 2000 years ago) here we are talking about hundreds of thousands of years. The dogan tribe is interesting as well as other myths describing beings descending from the stars.
The very existence of Beings from other stars are unproven but we seek beings in the flesh and blood when we could be searching for "consciousness" that of course with our current scientific measurements is not possible. Do you believe that we are alone in the Universe?

To extend upon what I meant by 'unproven' I should say that there could be reasons for certain information to remain 'unproven' (or hidden from public knowledge). For all I know, secret information confirming ancient alien visitations could be locked away in the depths of the Vatican (or other places) for only a few select eyes to see.

It is the 'unproven' things that we are drawn to and I would like to eventually find more information to at least 'prove' certain things to within a certain degree of probability.

I do know that even this galaxy contains hundreds of billions of stars and there are hundreds of billions of galaxies within the "known Universe" (which might only be a tiny bubble within a much more vast total Universe), so I find it mathematically extremely highly improbably that we humans are a special case ... so yes I believe there are other intelligenc beings of lower and higher abilities than humans. Mathematically and statistically it is just too huge a probability.

The possibilities of what other intelligent lifeforms are like are unknown (at present) but using even our human imagination (which actually might be fairly limited to the mental abilities of other forms of life 'out there') we can think of huge possibilities. Even on Earth, the concept of something like intelligent octopi or cuttlefish evolving into tool creating and intelligent cultures is an interesting idea and if humans weren't here perhaps in millions of years such animals could evolve that way.

---------------

There are many things around the world which point to the possibility of earlier humans being influenced by visiters from other solar systems (large drawings only fully seen from the air, some ancient texts and even old paintings or carvings showing perhaps flying technology) or perhaps from other layers or realms of Reality existing within the same space (if that's possible ... this would get rid of the problem associated with space travel and speed of light as a limitation).

The example of the 'cargo cults' on little pacific islands where the US built airstrip s in WWII copuld be similar to what acneint humans were doing by making huge drawings on the earth. These people built symbolic runways and airplanes made of wood and waited for the return of these visitors who brought magic items.

For all I know, even Prometheus could have been based on a literal event of the 'fire' representing the teaching or even genetic alteration of pre-humans to be more intelligent.

As humans, we may cling to the idea of intellignet beings having bodies like us. If there was some incredible knowledge they had which allowed for intelligence free from bodies, we might even have labelled such things as "magic", hoasts, spirits , faeries or "supernatural" angels and demons.

Perhaps if light-speed is really a concrete limitation, travelling the distance between stars by so-called "matter" or light makes for such huge durations of the voyages that only more advanced methods that we have no clue about at present are practical.
