In this story it seems to me like a creed, a name, a calling, imposed upon us, can be a prop, a crutch, and sometimes an impediment to us in our journey of self-discovery. What to some is a rock to lean on, to others can be a fetter and a chain. Th…

Actually, all seven elements apply to The Red Dance...and I agree that your analysis is very interesting! alchemistra said:From what I've read of The Red Dance, it would appear that elements 1,4, and 6 may figure in the story. This list was compiled…

The Brass Window

by Lani K. and Lindsey B. Thompson

When we were young, love joined our hearts.
From that day on we vowed never to part.

Do you recall windows of brass?
When they all tried to say love could not last.

We looked into the brass window
Shining darkly, shining darkly.
Love is always shining darkly.
Magic mirror of our love,
Magic mirror of our live,
Shining, shining, shining, shining
We looked into the brass window
Saw our shadow darkly shining.

Pretty dreams, they are lies.
Pretty, pretty dreams.

So many lies, we became lost.
Dark is the path through windows of brass.

When we were young, our dreams were sweet.
We vowed our love would last eternally.

The brass window, the brass window,
We looked into the brass window
And took our souls
And trapped them there, inside the glass.
Sweet dreams don't last
And to survive the brass window
We wove dark spells to bind our hearts.
Love is always shining darkly.

The brass window, the brass window
We looked into the brass window
And took our souls
And trapped them there inside the glass.

I close my eyes, my love,
Against their pretty dreams.
You are the shining dark
Brass window of my heart,
Brass window of my soul.

When Cilla Danced

by Lani K. Thompson

(Author's Note: This story was inspired by a father and son who were guests on a talk show many years. Apparently, they had started a church with Elvis Presley as their god. I wondered what would happen if that church "caught on" and became the church of the future.)

She stands on the temple steps, holding the pair of blue suede shoes that young Cilla has just returned to her. Her twisted fingers ru… Continue

Sorry, several typos in that last response. Not sure where the "s" goes when I try to type the word "instrument".
It happened on my previous post too! = 0

Hi Lani,
Thank you for your kind words and for sharing with me about the kantele. I found quite a few You Tube videos with kantele music. I have enjoyed them much. I also visited your webiste which is a treasure trove of information about the kantele and Finnish culture. It is a most interesting intrument, and the sound of it is amazingly beautiful. You must get great pleasure from playing it :)

Thanks, alchemistra. The Brass Window pictured above was drawn by my son, Jeff Thompson. I love his rendition of the magic mirror. It's only got a mention in my Red Dance book, but will play a bigger part in book two which will be called - appropriately - The Brass Window!

As for the instrument I'm holding...it's called a kantele, a Finnish "lap harp". I like to write music for it and am currently working on a collection of songs inspired by the Finnish epic poem, the Kalevala.

Hi Lani,
I'm new to the forum and I just wanted to say hello, peace and blessings for the New Year. Your Brass Window is a beautiful reflection of the heart, how lovely it is. When you have time, drop a line and tell me a little about the very interesting intrument you are holding in your picture.
Peace
alchemistra
